When you hire a professional company to clean your home, you not only save the time and hassle of cleaning your home, but will rest assured knowing that the professionals will take care of your home. In order to get the most out of your cleaning service, there is a small amount of preparation you can make before their arrival.

  1.  Most professional cleaning services recommend consumers try to be home if it is their initial cleaning visit with the service provider. This would enable them to check the cleaning job and provide any feedback for future cleanings.
  2. You can always request to get the same cleaning crew at your convenience. Your cleaning service may be able to send the same crew if you are willing to switch days or rotation. You may need to be prepared to have a different cleaning crew if you have requested the cleaning on an odd schedule such as every three weeks etc.
  3. Always remember to update your contact information with your service provider if you are using a cleaning service on a regular basis. They will keep you informed with the confirmations. You may also get a follow-up call or e-mail to ensure your expectations have been met.
  4. Cleaning companies would like to focus on your cleaning, it will be very helpful if you put away your personal belongings and de-clutter any surfaces the day before the cleaning to get the best possible result from your service. They may not be able to clean partially or entire areas due to liability issues.
  5. Your cleaning company will review any instructions given from you on the day of the service; therefore, you can always send an e-mail or call ahead of time if you have any last minute instructions. Remember to provide any feedback as needed to your service provider so that they can keep track of their crews’ performance. Some cleaning companies may give incentives to their employees to keep them motivated.
  6. You can always ask your service provider to use your own cleaning equipment or supplies if you have any preferences to avoid any inconveniences. Some households prefers environmentally safe cleaning while other home owners prefer old fashioned cleaning supplies.

Too Funky in Here? How to Get Rid of Home Odors – Naturally

Posted on August 13, 2015. Filed under: Bathroom Cleaning Tips, Kitchen Cleaning | Tags: , , , , |

skunk sells perfumes

Did you know that the air inside your home can be much more polluted than the air outside, even if you change your air filters  And chemical air fresheners only mask odors but do not eliminate them, and might be bad for your health.

Several natural odor-eaters, such as white vinegar, baking soda, and coffee, will do the trick.  These everyday products don’t just hide bad smells, they actually neutralize them. Not only are they inexpensive and environmentally friendly, but they really do work.

If your house is persistently funky-smelling, first consider getting a thorough cleaning by a professional company. Make sure they use green and non-toxic cleaners rather than harsh chemicals such as bleach and ammonia.

After, that, here are a few tips for maintaining an odor-free home:

  • Routinely clean the garbage can with white vinegar and water. Then place about a tablespoon of coffee, a few cloves, and a tablespoon of baking soda in the center of a coffee filter or a piece of cheese cloth. Close with a twist tie to make a sachet, and put it at the bottom of the can to eliminate unpleasant odors.
  • Keep the garbage disposal clean. Insert the sink stopper, fill with a few inches of hot water, add about 2 tablespoons of baking soda, turn on the disposal and immediately pull out the stopper.
  • Keep the bathrooms fresh. Make your own non-toxic air freshener. Combine 2 cups of water, 1 tablespoon white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and about 10 drops of essential oil (your favorite scent) and put in a spray bottle to keep handy in the bathroom.

There’s no need to spend money on air fresheners or perfumed cleaning products when you can keep your home fresh and clean using inexpensive, natural, non-toxic products. Vinegar and baking soda will defeat the funkiest odors. Try them—you’ll be glad!

What our Customers Say

Friendly and Efficient

I always love to come home after they’ve been here cleaning. They use natural products that smell good and get the job done.

Very thorough

Camille did a great job cleaning our house in Decatur last week! Everything looked and smelled terrific!

Love the Service

My friend told me about her neighbor’s business and I jumped at the chance to find someone to clean my house. So every other week, two very nice, polite ladies come and keep my house in shape. My floors are clean, things get dusted and my sink and bathtub do’sparkle’. I feel safe leaving the house while they are there and feel like the cats will still be inside when I get back. The thing I like most is the clean smell that lingers after they leave and that they use organic products. But they will use my products if I ask. I would recommend a detail cleaning first, even if your house is cleaner than mine. I only have them come every other week but hope to have them weekly in the future. I am getting used to a clean house. I don’t have to worry about paying taxes or anything except paying a set fee. That’s great as well.

Feng Shui 101

Posted on August 6, 2015. Filed under: Clearing Clutter | Tags: , , , , |

content

Whether you realize it or not, your surroundings affect your mind, body, and spirit. Some buildings and rooms evoke a peaceful, positive feeling, while others can evoke stress, depression, or anxiety.

The Chinese practice of Feng Shui addresses this phenomenon. This ancient interior design system provides guidelines for placing and orienting furniture and objects to enhance your personal energy flow.

There are Fung Shui consultants who will help you transform your living space but there are also many things you can do on your own by take a good look at your living space, room by room. (Doing this with a good friend could help you stay objective and proactive).

Things that inhibit good energy flow include:

  • Clutter
  • A misaligned or poorly maintained front door—sticky locks; squeaky hinges.
  • Unkempt landscaping and lawn.
  • Papers, books, or toys scattered all over.
  • Unmade beds.
  • A messy, disorganized kitchen.

Removing even such minor, daily irritations enhances feelings of calm and well-being.

Other easy things you can do to enhance the Feng Shui in your home include:

  • Making the main entrance clutter-free, open, and inviting.
  • Ensuring good air quality—open windows when possible; regularly replace HVAC air filters; and strategically place air-purifying plants.
  • Ensuring good quality light—allow as much natural light into your home as possible and consider using full-spectrum lights.
  • Positioning your bed farthest from the door but where you’re still able to see the doorway and anyone approaching. This enhances feelings of security and peace.
  • Positioning your desk so that you can see who’s coming.

Take steps to reorient furniture, de-clutter, organize, clean, and fix the stuff in your living space and you will begin to understand the feel-good benefits of Feng Shui.

What our Customers Say

Phenonmenal Job for a Picky client

The quality of the work and the people at Sponge and Sparkle are top notch for this busy working single mom.

Great Service for Busy family

With time not on our side during the week, we began using Sponge & Sparkle a couple months ago. Read the reviews on Kudzu, after a friend suggested we use them. So far, going great. I only wish we could clean our house as fast as they do, remarkable! Very nice people to work with.

These cleaners shine!

Walking into my house after Sponge & Sparkle had cleaned it was fantastic! They cleaned every nook and cranny, steamed the cabinets, got the cobwebs from our vaulted ceilings – even set my daughters doll on a pillow with a blanket. These folks care about what they do and it shows! They do a fantastic job, are reliable, honest and a pleasure to work with. My house was a mess and they fixed it!
