Hiring an Atlanta maid service? Ask this question!

Posted on June 21, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , |

When you are interviewing Atlanta maid services, be sure that one of the questions you ask is “Do you have workman’s comp insurance?

In Georgia,  businesses are required by law to carry workman’s comp on their employees.  (This is also true in most states – Texas is an exception).  Workman’s compensation insurance  is expensive, and sometimes house cleaning services may cut corners by letting their coverage lapse or never buy it to begin with.   Also, sometimes companies might say they have it when they don’t,  so you want to actually see their certificate of insurance before their visit is scheduled.

This is for your protection and any legitimate company will happily supply this to you; it is a standard request.

If you hire someone to clean for you who is not covered under WC, then you are leaving yourself ridiculously vulnerable.  She may be the sweetest  person in the world but if she injures herself in your home and  she can’t work for a while  and/or pay her bills,  and maybe doesn’t even have  health insurance – her options are limited, and  what else can she do but sue you?

At Sponge & Sparkle, we carry workman’s compensation on all of our employees, and will gladly provide proof of coverage.

A natural way to get rid of ants

Posted on June 14, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Are you having an unwelcome ant problem?  Here is a natural alternative to chemical pesticides –

Ants leave a scented trail so other ants can find their way to food, so you need to routinely wash away these invisible trails with a vinegar based cleanser made up of 1/4 cup vinegar, 2 cups water,  and 15 drops of peppermint, clove,  eucalyptus, or tea tree essential oils.  I tried it and it works!

Easy to make Disinfecting Spray

Posted on June 7, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Here is a recipe for a delicious disinfecting  air freshener that is easy to make and all natural:  The essential oils in it can be found at health food stores and at “Scents and Suds”  at Ansley Mall in Midtown Atlanta.

(Makes 1/2 cup)

4 drops white thyme essential oil
6 drops of tea tree essential oil
8 drops of clove essential oil
2 teas 190 proof alcohol
1/2 cup filtered or distilled water
In a glass measuring  cup stir the oils into the alcohol.  If the oils do not dissolve completely, add another teaspoon of  alcohol.  Fill with water to the 1/2 cup line.  Pour the solution into a small spray bottle (preferably glass).
