A Favorite Quote from Helen Keller

Posted on February 25, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble“.

I love this quote by the inimitable  Helen Keller.    Life often seems to be made up of  trivial, repetitious, and uneventful tasks and when I think of this quote it really elevates my perspective to strive for excellence in what I do and…TO BE HERE NOW.

What does “green cleaning” actually mean?

Posted on February 15, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

The use of the word “green” right now is everywhere,  it seems and since it is not regulated, there can be some confusion as to what it really means.

When it comes to cleaning here is what “green” means to us:

  1. Non toxic and biodegradable – a green cleaner is not toxic to humans or animals and is readily biodegradable (within 28 days)
  2. they are less irritating formulas with natural ingredients.  Our soap scum remover for instance,  consists of lavendar, eucylyptus, tea tree oil and borax
  3. low or no volitile organic compound (VOCs).  VOCs are released into the air when a product comes out of the bottle.   VOCs are lung irritants, health hazards and even add to the carbon layer above the earth so by switching to low VOC cleaning products you improve your indoor air quality significantly
  4. not tested on animals.

Also we have found that the green products we are using are just as effective, if not more so, than traditional cleaners containing harsh and dangerous chemicals.

Green cleaning seems like a no-brainer to us!

What does “green” cleaning mean?

Posted on February 15, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized |

What does green cleaning really mean and does it work?
First, the use of the word “green” is not regulated, so it is often over-used and causes confusion. However, when it comes to cleaning here is what it means to us:
First – non toxic and biodegradable. A green cleaner is not toxic to you or animals, and it is readily biodegradable. That doesnt mean green products are 100% safe – you wouldnt drink them! – but in comparison may household chemicals are quite dangerous and potentionally toxic.
Second – les irritating formulas. The green products we use have chemicals that are less irritating to you and the environment compared to traditional formulations. Our bathroom and kitchen cleaner is made by Seaside Naturals and is made up of 100% natural ingredients including lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, borox, vinegar and alcohol.
Third – They are not tested on animals.
Fourth – Most of these formulas are concentrates and/or come in bulk so that we have been able to reduce waste from excess packaging.
Do green products really work? After some trial an error, we are confident that our products work really well, if not better, than their more harmful couterparts!

Keeping your Kitchen Clean!

Posted on February 6, 2010. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , |

Keep your kitchen cabinets cleaner by keeping lids on pots and pans whenever possible, and running the exhaust fan.

It is not just the grease that makes a mess of your kitchen cabinets, it is also the wet steam that rises from cooking. The steam settles into the dust and dirt and makes it sticky.
