A Simple Tip For Choosing Cleaning Products

Posted on November 30, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Consumers may find it time consuming and confusing to research all the ingredients in the cleaning products under the sink, so product warning labels are a useful first line of defense.

Cleaning products are required by law to include label warnings if harmful ingredients are included. From safest to the most dangerous, the warning signals are “caution”, “warning” and “danger”.

You should remove products with labels stronger than caution.
Even products with a cautionary label may present health risks if used improperly or with repeated exposure over time.

Label Guidelines (for a 180 lb male):

  • Caution 1 oz to a pint may be harmful
  • Warning 1 teas to 1 ounce may be harmful or fatal
  • Danger 1 taste to 1 teas is fatal

(Remember: these fatal amounts are for a 180 lb male….not a child!)

Good ventilation and skin barriers are important when using any over the counter cleaning product.
